PETER WEIR: A World Apart

Today, there is little debate that Peter Weir is considered one of the finest film directors born in Australia and, consequently, one of the most brilliant filmmakers globally to have pursued their professional career in the present century. Peter Weir: A World Apart acknowledges the significance of a filmmaker who made his feature film debut with the peculiar The Cars that Ate Paris (1974) and whose films have since become, to a greater or lesser extent, landmarks or small triumphs within the context of a cinema where many proposals have had an ephemeral value. This is not the case with Peter Weir’s cinema, a substantial portion of which has become part of the collective imagination, such as Witness (1985), Dead Poets Society (1989), The Truman Show (1998), or Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003). Under his direction, Weir has worked with internationally renowned performers, including Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Sigourney Weaver, Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, or Russell Crowe, among others.
