THE BOOK
In 1954 John Williams composed the soundtrack for the short documentary film You Are Welcome commissioned by St. John’s Newfoundland during his period of military training. Since then, Williams has carried out an incessant professional activity as a musician that has placed him in the ‘Olympus’ of composers of the second half of the 20th century and the first quarter of the 21st century. Conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra for fifteen years —from 1980 to 1995—, composer of soundtracks for more than a hundred film productions, author of a multitude of compositions for television —mainly concentrated in the sixties— and chiefly responsible for the creation of a dozen concert works for solo instrument, Among other contributions to the cultural scene, John Williams has achieved enormous popularity thanks to his participation in some of the most profitable franchises in the history of cinema, such as the Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter sagas. His collaboration with Steven Spielberg over the course of thirty years, beginning forty years ago with Sugarland Express (1974), is worth mentioning. JOHN WILLIAMS: Symphonies of a New World (2024) represents one of the most comprehensive books on the market on the work of one of the legends of contemporary music, covering every aspect of his impressive legacy as a composer.
